Can you give some suggestions for helping to unclench the hand that we can pass along to caregivers?
It would be irresponsible of me to begin to answer this question without an all out disclaimer: I am not a physician. I strongly recommend that anyone with a tight, fisted hand see a physician for a proper examination. The physician can then recommend physical or occupational therapy for contracture management. The reason for the contracture- neurological, orthopedic- and any other compounding issues like fracture, joint subluxation, or inflammatory disease needs to be determined before the correct approach can be identified.
As with most issues, there is no easy answer.
